How To Use The Roman Numeral Converter

To use the Roman numeral converter, simply enter the number you wish to convert into the ‘enter number’ field and click the convert button. The tool will then show you the roman numeral equivalent of the number you want.

Be aware that this only works for numbers up to 3999 as any number above this in Roman numerals requires the use of a vinculum. It is thought that traditionally the Romans did not count over 3999, given that they used numbers mostly for trade. That vinculums were introduced later, and therefor our converter only works for numbers up to 3999.

To find out more about numbers in Rome, read our dedicated post on Roman Numerals.

Our Roman numeral converter tool works for both converting into roman numerals and converting ‘from’ roman numerals. Just use the correct field for the conversion you wish to enact.

Roman Numeral Chart

Here’s a chart for all roman numbers between 1 and 100, you can use to cross check your results. Or simply use as a lookup to find the number you want!
