The gravesite in Rome
at the Protestant cemetery

These are personal photos, taken by a kind companion who braved wind, rain & out of control scooters to visit with me.

A former visitor had put a potted plant in front of Keats's tombstone and it had tipped over.  Here I am turning it right side up.

path to Keats's grave

This is the path leading through the cemetery to Keats's grave.  You can see the two cats (John and Joe) who live on Keats's and Severn's graves.  Wait - you can't see them?  Check out the same picture below - I've placed red smudges near the cats.

This is me looking at the memorial plaque for Keats.  The wonderful thing about the Protestant Cemetery is its genuine peacefulness.  I've visited a few cemeteries over the years and this is the only one which makes requiescat in pace seem possible.  (Didn't Shelley remark this place could make one fall in love with death?  I wouldn't go that far, of course, but I understand the spirit of his comment.)

more to come....
