black and white version of Charles Brown's sketch of John Keats, 1819 First, let me thank you for visiting my webby tribute to 'that great poet and noble-hearted man', John Keats.

One of the pleasures of this website has been 'meeting' (electronically) so many kind people from around the world.  The knowledge that people enjoy visiting the website certainly inspires me to keep working on it. It's also wonderful to know there are so many Keats enthusiasts out there.

Three issues come up more often than others via email, so let me address them now -

If you think the site is too low-tech - well, there's no reason to tell me.  It's low-tech because I'm a low-tech kind of girl. And poetry is a low-tech art.

If you're a student who wants to know the meaning of Keats's poetry, it's best to read the Keats quote at the Poetry page.  That's how I feel about telling anyone what the poems mean.  I have written introductions and added annotation to some of them.  However, my opinion on 'what they mean' is exactly that, - it's only my opinion.  I suggest reading the information on composition, etc and deciding for yourself.

Always remember that Keats wanted his poetry to be read by everyone, - including you.  You can understand every poem at this site.  Take your time and mull things over and, most of all, enjoy yourself.  There are few things in life more amazing than reading a great poem.

And lastly, yes, this is a one-person (me) operation.  I created the website in summer 1997 because I love Keats's work and, at the time, there were no other Keats-related websites around.

If you are looking for another website about Keats, please visit the Links page.  Thilo's site hosts a forum and shop.

This site will soon be moving to a new address.  And though it's not there yet, you can email me via the new address -

marilee@keatsian.com.

Please put 'Keats' in your subject line.  Spammers regularly spoof my email address - and that causes spam messages to be bounced back to my account even though I didn't send them.  I don't want to miss any valid messages so I've created an Inbox folder to save any messages with 'Keats' in the title.

And I'm still working on the Guestbook issue.  If only teenagers could find something more interesting to do than post profanity-ridden messages on my guestbook.  Misspelled profanity, too.  Alas.

All the best,
-Marilee
